We now have a fully accredited Pre-K/ Kindergarten program for children ages 4 and up. Certified teacher, Marian Baker, MS, directs the program with Candy Reichert as the aide, leading out in the day-to-day activities. Ms. Reichert has over twenty years of hands-on experience working with children and is also the Pathfinder director here at Gettysburg. She is our pastor's wife and mother of three children.
Our Pre-K/ Kindergarten is part of the Gettysburg Adventist School, which is operated by the largest Protestant school system in the world. We open our doors to families of all backgrounds seeking strong academics and Bible-based character development for their children. We also have an elementary school with grades one through nine, that has been well established in the Gettysburg community for over 10 years. Our schools are widely known for their academic success and excellence and our Pre K/Kindergarten is no exception.
Our daily program is a balance of activities designed to help your child grow socially, emotionally, physically, intellectually, and spiritually. Our pre K/ Kindergartenl uses a model of instruction that allows for directed teaching group times, in which the teacher may do such things as read aloud or lead activities in the curriculum for Bible study, language arts, math, social studies, or science, as well as learning centers, where children are encouraged to independently participate in teacher selected activities designed for learning through exploration. During this time, they exercise independent thinking skills when they choose from a variety of available activities such as art projects, sand or water play, block building, creative play in the home living area, reading books, working puzzles, or playing other educational games. Music is an important part of our program, including singing, playing musical instruments, and musical movement. Instruments your child will learn include hand bells, recorder and dulcimer to name a few. Computers are used as an instructional tool, utilizing a variety of programs designed specifically for preschoolers.
Ms. Reichert will give your family a copy of their daily schedule for your reference. A typical daily schedule is listed HERE. She will also let you know the specific activities for your child's age and learning level.
